New Fastest Production Car in the World (July 2010)

Wasn't going to post this originally (because I like to keep my personal obsessions out of UX), but hey, since we have a "pit stop" now, why not?

In 2007, SSC (Shelby Super Cars) stunned the world with their new SSC Ultimate Aero TT. Taking down the old record holder (2005 Bugatti Veyron), this was not only the first time America has ever held the production car speed record, but the first time Europe hasn't.

That's right; Europe has always been fighting for the speed record since the dawn of the automobile in 1885, but then... a new challenger aproaches.

Since 2007, SSC has comfortably held the record.... until this month!!

Striking back with their new model, the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport (or SS for short), SSC's record wasn't just broken; it was shattered.

The SSC held it's top speed around 256mph, but the the new Veyron hit a stunning 267mph!!

It's acceleration is basically the same as the old one; 0-60 in an impressive 2.5 seconds. However, so much more has changed. The new SS Veyron's acceleration is far better than it's old version past 60mph. What is most impressive though is it's handling. Stepping up a notch, the new car broke the record of the Gumpert Apollo (famously known as the best handling car in the world) around the Top Gear test Track, on the famous show Top Gear.

The Gumpert held a 1:17.1, the Veyron a 1:16.8 surprisingly.

The new Veyron is expected to be tested on the even more famous Nüremberg Ring to see if it can break all records as well.

So... Best acceleration? Highest Top Speed? And now.. Best Handling? What more could you want out of a car? The German's have regained their title yet again! Go Germany!!

But still, as we speak, SSC is already working on a newer faster Aero to regain their title.

I'm gonna go out on a stretch and say this work of awesome isn't cheap.

The new Veyron looks sweet. Not sure if I'm mad or not that it's beating the Americans, but I'm sure we'll just keep making better cars over and over again until something top speeds around 300.

I get that all the time. Your probably thinking of the Aero TT actually. Acording to SSC, the Aero can hit a theoretical and unproven top speed of 272mph; however, it was only tested to 256mph, so that's its top speed. On paper stats are worthless and mean nothing until you can prove them on the streets. World record books don't lie. Thats why I only include TESTED cars in the list.

Well the car itself didn't look anything like a SSC (and it HAD been tested but apparently the record books didn't know about it.)

It looked more like that Farboud prototype..

But like I said, ohwell, and I found another 'Porsche' that is quite fast.

RUF CTR 3, Top speed 235 mph, mass produced too.

I prefer RUF's over standard Porsche's anyway


The site for RUF Automobile has a blooper too, they have a mint-condition CTR 2 listed for 225 Euros, they better fix that pretty quick xD

Still think your getting it confused with something. In order to make the list, it must be:

1. Street-legal
2. In production or has been in production (multiple units built for sale on market)
3. Tested to the claimed speed/officially recorded
4. Verified at that speed (#3) by at least 1 noteworthy source

If you can find me a picture, car name, or anything, feel free to let me know, but I guarentee it doesn't meet all those categories. Tested maybe, but not to those speeds. Maybe it's a concept car? You never know.


Also... 9ff > RUF > Porsche (performance wise at least, but generally they're all the same)



EDIT: Love that RUF too, but I don't know if it has been tested to the 235mph yet. If it has though, it's probably like #11 or #12.

But can you build a car to be faster than a Bugatti Veyron and cheaper.

I'm pretty sure those rocket sleigh thingies that can go like 1000km/h (400+ mp/h? I dunno, retard system is retard) would beat any 4-wheeled piece of junk ever, but we are talking about cars in mass production here. If your neighborhood greaseballs build a car that can go 400mp/h, no one gives a shit because it isn't in mass production and it most probably isn't legal.
