The only thing the debate proved was that Romney will abandon everything he has been campaigning on, or rather say absolutely anything, just to get elected. I watched the debate again, and on further analysis, it appears that the reason Obama did less than good is that he could not believe his ears with all the BS that was coming out of Romney's mouth.. caught him off-guard; it caught me off-guard.

Of course, still no details on any of Romney's plans. All I hear is "Obama's plans are bad, I will repeal and replace them with my own plan, but I have no idea what my plan is yet".

Also, the moderator was pretty bad.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To elaborate further on the healthcare part though: Romney did mention that he will cover pre-existing conditions, without the individual mandate. That would bankrupt insurance companies; all the people who are sick would only buy in, and the healthy would not, costing everything. The only way covering all of the sick would work is forcing everyone to buy into the system, so the funds from healthy people can help the sick; the money has to come from somewhere. Thus, if Romney holds to the healthcare plan he is selling in the debate, it will add trillions more to the deficit.

One last thing in the debate, that doesn't add up, is this: Romney wanted to add $2 trillion to defense spending, cut $5 trillion worth of taxes, and somehow still balance the budget to stop the debt bubble. The only thing left to do then, is cut, a LOT. That is a lot of money, and the only way to achieve those cuts, would be to slash everything, from education to medicare. The country would collapse.

Everyone talks about cutting taxes, nobody ever talks about raising taxes.

Money has to come from somewhere. As often as everyone talks about cutting taxes, I'm surprised that there are any taxes to cut. Sure doesn't seem like it sometimes.

Unemployment dropped from 8.1 to 7.8% this past month alone, so clearly something is working.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/business/economy/unemployment-rate-plunges-to-78percent/2012/10/05/bdb6e5bc-0ee7-11e2-a310-2363842b7057_story.html

Things take time to fix (especially 8 years of screwing up), so it is good to see things are recovering again, slowly, but surely.

Anything cutting taxes is just bad. Bad. Bad. Bad.

The rich can go back to paying 60%+ on taxes (Money doesn't mean anything if you don't spend it), everyone can pay more into their country if they want to see it thrive.

I'm tired of hearing about tax-breaks. For once, we need to stop thinking about ourselves and think about the country. When a country is $15 trillion in debt because of banks giving bad loans since the 90s, stimulus packages at $900 billion a pop, and running a country like a business, it's time to stop beating around the bush with "Everyone gets a tax break! Except the rich, their taxes go up to 10%!"

By the way, going from 8.1 to 7.8 is not something working, it's something happening on a fluke. It'll go right back up. It always does.

And what's that giant red spike?

So I'm wrong now that I look at things. Doesn't change the fact a good majority of people still think the country isn't much better off.

http://www.cnn.com/2012/04/09/opinion/frum-economic-trouble/index.html

Sure, now a good amount of people feel confident.

http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/report-americans-feel-confident-economy-17324042#.UHEnE03A88k

But I think we've all heard the reports over the years of "Americans feel better" and "Americans feel uneasy" changing over only months time. Very often it's "Americans feel uneasy" or something rather.

Excuse me if I'm somewhat skeptical.

Jagdgeschwader wrote:And what's that giant red spike?

That would be Pres Bush good sir. And before you say that the latter part of the spike extends into Obama's first year, i'm sure you are well aware that no President could've prevented it. There is a delayed effect; policies of administrations affect up to 5 years into the future, so no matter what happened, that spike would've occurred regardless. Within a year though, the spike was reversed, instead of continuing up further, so Obama's plan worked.

EDIT: In fact, based on the graph, unemployment is lower today than when Obama took office.

Jagdgeschwader wrote:So I'm wrong now that I look at things. Doesn't change the fact a good majority of people still think the country isn't much better off.

That is to be expected; recovery is a slow process. 8 years of screwing up can't be magically fixed in 4, however, as shown on meatshields graph, we are making progress.

Are we better off than 4 years ago? Of course we are! We aren't in a great depression with 25% unemployment for one (which would've happened with a McCain administration), and we are on the track to a full recovery. People are just impatient and expect instant results, which is always impossible.

Jagdgeschwader wrote:But I think we've all heard the reports over the years of "Americans feel better" and "Americans feel uneasy" changing over only months time. Very often it's "Americans feel uneasy" or something rather.

Of course perceptions change, it is uncertain times. All Americans didn't feel easy about FDR's recovery when it was first implemented, but it worked. Obama's will work to, it will just take time.

No, it's more like "Global Recession", not President Bush alone. If I read that correctly, unemployment under Bush stayed well under 6% for his entire term.

Jagdgeschwader wrote:No, it's more like "Global Recession", not President Bush alone.

The US Recession caused the global recession. In other words, if the US never went into recession, Europe would be fine. The US is just the worlds No. 1 importer, so when times get tough, imports go down, and budgets globally are strained. So, it wasn't pres Bush alone, but it was probably 90% him.

Jagdgeschwader wrote:unemployment under Bush stayed well under 6% for his entire term.

Obama took office on January 20th, 2009, in when unemployment was about at 8%, and trending sharply upwards. And again, there is a delayed effect; unemployment (8% at election) was trending to 10%+ regardless of who took office. The difference is, will it stop then, or keep trending up toward 20%? It stopped, thanks to Obama's policies, and a stimulus package.

The US dollar is the worlds reserve currency for the global market. Meaning that a lot of countries use american dollars as a middleman for foriegn transactions (on a large scale of course). So when the US dollar sinks, so doest he global economy.
