It doesn't really matter what they look like anyway. If they do well and make a good movie, good. I doubt it though, given video game movies' history. Virtually every video game movie has been shit. Probably all.

As for Gears of War. Don't see how they'll translate it to a movie. Will they just size down the characters and armor, or are they going to have to find Hulk Hogan types and give them ridiculously huge armor? No matter which they choose, there will no doubt be thousands in the fanbase who'll complain it doesn't look enough like the game.

As for the Halo movie, what made you think it was being made about the fourth installment? It's clearly being made about the first one. Also, that movie's been in development forever, and will likely stay that way. Alex Garland was the original guy writing the screenplay, back in 2007 or so. Either they're just keeping a five year old screenplay despite whatever changes they've made to Halo in that time, they've had the same guy re-write his screenplay, or it's still on hold. I'm going to guess the last one, since I'm pretty sure the original Halo team is working on a different sci-fi movie.

I think one of the problems is that video games aren't exactly designed to be movies. Even games like Heavy Rain, which are essentially one step away from being a movie. If they just translated it directly to a movie, it would be like six hours long. I hope one day they can make six hour long movies. Don't see why movies have to be in the 80 minute to three and a half hour range. Just don't chug the ridiculously sized soda.

Also. Mostly all video games pretty much have levels. For example (skip to the last sentence if you've played Halo), the Halo movie. Are they going to have parts where Master Chief goes through the Pillar of Autumn, killing everybody, followed by him finding a bunch of soldiers on Halo, followed by him and the soldiers attacking the Truth and Reconciliation, followed by him, Captain Keyes and the soldiers investigating the island where the Silent Cartographer is, followed by Master Chief and Echo 419 flying into the control room area and assaulting it (hehehe), followed by MC looking for Captain Keyes and the recon team in the Flood area, followed by him being teleported by the Monitor to the Library to get the Index, followed by the Monitor teleporting with him back to the control room, where he betrays Chief, at which point Chief backtracks through the level, destroyer generator things to slow down the Monitor's activation of Halo, at which point Cortana uses Halo's teleportation grid to transport herself and Chief aboard the Truth and Reconciliation, where they find Keyes and take his neural implants out so they can teleport back to the Pillar of Autumn, make their way to the bridge, activate the self destruct timer so as to prevent the Monitor from activating Halo (which, as revealed previously, will destroy all life in the Galaxy), be foiled by the Monitor only to make their way to the armory, get some explosive devices (anyone who's played Halo probably just grabbed a shotgun and rocket launcher at that point), and use the explosive devices to destabilize the generator and cause a wildcat destabilization so they have to take an elevator up to the travel area where they steal a warthog and drive to the docking bay and commandeer a longsword and fly out of the Pillar of Autumn's self destruct blast radius so they don't get killed and then finally declare "it's just getting started"? Fuck no, they're going to rewrite the shit out of it, which would make the fanbase shit itself.

Basically, video game plots are written to be long. They'd work out much better as a series than as a movie.

But if it's not Master Chief it's not Halo! Imagine it, a protagonist who seldom says anything and almost always is alone. You can't make a Halo movie outside that formula. If you did, it might actually work.

That's one of the problems with a Halo movie. It would either have to be about Master Chief and feature him talking a lot more (which would piss off much of the fanbase) or make it about someone other than Master Chief (which would piss off much of the fanbase).

Gears is a bit different, since it's about a larger group who interact with each other. The only reason they'd make it about people outside that group would be if they wanted the fanbase to throw a shit fit.

For example, the Resident Evil movies. I have a friend who played Resident Evil games, and I remember watching some Resident Evil movie one TV. He spent the entire time talking about how "Oh, in the games there's no chick who can lift rocks by dreaming", and talking about what happened in the games. It didn't matter that the Resident Evil movies are shit. He was mad they didn't make a movie out of the games. I don't think most people (not all) want to see an original story made in these game universes, they just want to see what they played in the game made into a movie. Which doesn't work so they have to rewrite it, which makes the fans throw a shit fit.

Anyhow, I am nevertheless excited to see if these all actually release (Obviously the Kayne & Lynch movie, seeing as there is already a cover/poster.), and if they also meet par with the games' qualities.
