Solar Flares in 2013 Could Cause a "2nd Carrington Event"

It's interesting to read about, to say the least.

In case you don't know, solar flares in 2013 are expected to cause what one individual called "Incalculable" amounts of damage to electrical grids all over the world.

Are you guys serious? This shit happens all the time, and it's already fucked with our technology on multiple occasions. And it's pretty much confirmed that this is going to be the biggest one ever (or at least in the timespan of modern technology). Of course it's gonna fuck with technology, it's just a question of "to what extent".

Yeah, definately. Some services (phones, internet, TV, that sort of stuff) will probably experience some interference or be unavailable. It's not gonna be a fucking worldwide EMP, which I'm sure the tabloid media will make it sound like when we get closer to it actually happening.

i feel like this could also be the possibility of the myan calender prediction, regardless this might be a nice opportunity to red establish our power grid and think of some renewable energy sources to finally faze out gas and nuclear power

Ironically two power sources NOT affected by this sort of event...

To give you all perspective, the Carrington event was where massive solar flares destroyed electronics, no matter what it was. Wires fried, telegraphs set on fire, and northern lights were apparently visible as far south as Rome. It wasn't a big deal then because electricity was new, but think of it now when it runs entire countries.

I'm not building an armory or stockpiling food, but don't disrespect nature. The Carrington event was very real, and it could always happen again.

Oh believe me I don't disrespect as many do. Hurricane Sandy was one event that shows the true power of nature, and the effect of man-made climate change on the power and frequency of storms (or course, many people call CC a hoax, and therefore, don't respect nature, as you say).

I just don't believe it will be the "end of the world" as the article you posted makes it out to be.
