e-hole.net Layout
Hey guys, I'm working on the e-hole.net layout and I'd like some input to see where this is going. I'm going to give you guys a basic questionnaire about the layouts you guys prefer (using UndeadXbox or any other forums/layouts you visit as experience.) If you were to go beyond what the questionnaire asks it would be greatly appreciated. Please remember that we are working hard on the new website and try to keep the responses semi-serious.
1. Lighter colored layouts or Darker, grittier layouts?
2. Do you feel that a layout must be completely relevant to the website content?
3. Complex layouts (lots of imagery, color work) or a Cleaner/Basic layout?
You can view the current website at e-hole.net
The main page you will be viewing is just a temporary placeholder until the site is opened up. It represents a theme that I am currently trying out, but does not necessarily represent the final theme/layout.
You can view the forums at www.e-hole.net/forums however they will be locked so you won't be able to see much. The forums are no where near done so everything you do see is a work in progress. That being said, your input is still extremely valuable.
One thing that is awesome about vbulletin (the program I'm using to design the forum) I can have multiple layouts up, meaning you can choose how you want to view the website. I absolutely plan on using this feature as I love making layouts and the more options you guys have, the better the site will be.

Re: e-hole.net Layout
1. Hard to answer for me bro. I like it when it's good, it wouldn't be fair to say that "darker layouts are always better than lighter ones"
2. Not necessarily, if the style is cool, but a completely irrelevant layout has to try harder to be a good one, imo. If that makes sense
3. Complex layouts, if it doesn't become so complex that it's "abstract art." Not to say basic layouts aren't cool.

1. Darker, Grittier layouts
2. Sure
3. Complex layouts (without going too over the top)
These are just my opinions and i don't feel to strongly about them. Whatever you do is fine.

-I prefer Darker but I really like the UX layout
2. Do you feel that a layout must be completely relevant to the website content?
-Definitely not
3. Complex layouts (lots of imagery, color work) or a Cleaner/Basic layout?
-Both as long as they work

Re: e-hole.net Layout
gotta say i like the front page so far. the whole entrance thing.
1: not really in any direction, just nice looking. if this means its bright colored but has some neat, sleek looking aesthetic thats bright, thats cool, but the same thing could be done dark and gritty, sort of like how the theme is now.
2: not completely relevant, though it would add to it. the current bar looking layout is a good example, its vaguely relevant and also not a stereotypical gaming look
3: complex layouts would add a nice touch. its not that big of a deal, but its like the splatter in the background and organs slightly visible in the reply box here. subtle but nice and detailed

No gay sidebars and widgets. Makes the forum un-zoomable.

This is really interesting for me. The widgets have always been helpful me. Care to explain?

I think I know what he means. Basically widgets and sidebars don't change size, so zooming in and out of the page can be a hassle. (that's what you mean, right?)
If I recall correctly, it should be fairly easy to allow members to enable and disable widgets as they please. That may fix this issue.

Re: e-hole.net Layout
Oh I guess I didn't realize that. I don't zoom in a lot. But yeah meatshield is right, all of the widgets (if there are any) can be disabled by the user.

Lighter but i always liked the rotating system and with the optional layouts it will be even cooler
2. Do you feel that a layout must be completely relevant to the website content?
not entirely but i would like a to hope that the forum and site have a different feel so they feel separate but still both accessible
3. Complex layouts (lots of imagery, color work) or a Cleaner/Basic layout?
the optional layouts should allow for both but - Complex is my preference

Re: e-hole.net Layout
How about you make several color layout options so it doesn't have to be either/or.

I plan on it. But this still helps me get a sense of what people like and don't like.

Re: e-hole.net Layout

SMK actually suggested this already, that we do a "classic" layout which emulates UndeadXbox. Wanted it to be a surprise but your a dick.

Any chance of 'special' layouts like Halloween, Christmas Hanukkah, Ramadan etc.?

Of course! Creating layouts was one of my favorite things to do for UX. Now with so many more options I'll be making layouts all the time, and definitely some more advances ones.

Who? I don't know what you're talking about.
Re: e-hole.net Layout
I would do an alternate layout based on my vision of what e-hole should look like, if I were given some kind of template specifications. Up to you, Apefella.
