Game with the Developers (RDR)
Today we got to game with the developers of Red Dead Redemption! It was pretty tough to get into a game and actually speak with them but we got some questions in and then eventually got into a posse with RedDeadDev12 a game tester at Rockstar San Diego. RedDeadDev12 was a pretty cool guy and stayed in the room with us for almost an hour and answered a good amount of our questions.
(Note these are not quotes, just a summary of the responses we got from multiple Devs.)
Us: There are some things missing from multiplayer that we were really excited for, such as the train and more completely enterable buildings, why were they removed?
Answer: These decisions were technical in nature. The train was removed for syncing problems and other bugs. The lack of enterable buildings is mostly due to the limited amount of space on the harddrive and streaming.
Us: Why was the game delayed from April to May?
Answer: It simply was not ready. The game was finished however there were plenty of bugs that needed to be ironed out before release.
Us: The formula for GTAIV and Red Dead Redemption are very similar, what was the decision behind this?
Answer: Both games were made alongside eachother and so it made sense to use the same engines and do something familiar. The structure is very solid anyway and can be applied easily to both games.
Us: How did you get the game to look so damn good?
Answer: The guys at rockstar San Diego know there stuff when it comes to the Rage and Euphoria engines. They worked extremely hard to get great looking graphics and it payed off.
Us: In GTAIV we were able to edit the world settings in the lobby to create custom games, why was this not present in RDR?
Answer: Rockstar wanted to keep the world the way it was in single player. The world in RDR is alive with people, lawmen and wildlife and so it would not make sense to adulterate it for multiplayer.
Us: In multiplayer, you have to shoot a player a lot to kill them, also players can quickly lock on to others, why?
Answer: Rockstar wanted to make the game accessible to everyone, so anybody could pick it up and be able to play. If players were able to pick others off in one or two shots it wouldn't be as fun. The same goes for the lock on system, it also stops players from dancing around eachother when they get close up.
Us: There is a bug where when up close to another player you melee them, even if you are in the same posse.
Answer: There are still bugs in the game that need to be fixed and they are working to patch them up.
RedDeadDev12 also gave us some insight to testing games, how the job is, how to get into it and its part in the industry. He gave us some really useful information and some tips to getting into the development world. We told him about UndeadXbox and what we do. He said that he would check out the website, whether he will or not who knows. Everyone was very cool so if you do read this thanks a lot for answering our questions and talking to us.

Aye, despite some earlier difficulties with getting the Developers to be social-able enough to chat with us, finding RedDeadDev12 was a real God-send, that guy was a real treat to have around and he sure wasn't shy about answering our questions.
I think it was a good ambassador move on Rockstar's behalf, I really hope he stops by the site, or at least spreads the word around his office.

Wow, thats great guys! I really hope that this sight gets some sort of recognition for what you guys have created. Its also pretty cool to interview a game developer, usually only video game press get to do that if they get lucky! Overall, good to see the developer wasn't a jerk or else there wouldn't be this discussion.

Should have asked him if he knows with anything yet to come. Hopefully, more things to do in free roam. That is great that you guys talked to him, though. Would be cool if Rockstar took a look at the website and games.

They have to respond that they dont know about anything. The only dlc we know of is the co-op pack which he said will not be within freemode like the gang hideouts are. He did say that the missions are going to be a lot of fun and not just the "kill everything" type. Hell there may be a train robbing one.

Re: Game with the Developers (RDR)
Dude this is some serious gold. I wish I was there, sounded like a benefit to anyone in the game. I mean talking to a moderator is one thing, but an actual developer is great. Who knows, maybe they'll add a "zombie outfit" now after that little meet up, or even better, add a whole new DLC game mode designed for UX!! (but that last one would definately be pushing it). Simply awsome deadape... simply awsome
Re: Game with the Developers (RDR)
It was really fun to play with them, and beat them at their own game. Glad we talked to a few of them. Rockstar representatives coming here equals bragging rights.
