VBS GTA IV
The whole alphabet is here!
Los Angeles, or the GTA equivalent to it. This is the next target in the fight against free roaming savages. Hostilities have ceased for the most part in Liberty City, so we must prepare for that fight now the best we can in LC so our forces may be ready!
Cloak and dagger aside, what I'm proposing is "Forts - Extended"! Minus the forts and plus multiple scenarios with dynamic scenarios in those. It's military exercises to prepare you for the fight on the West Coast soldier!
How may this work? I'm glad you asked, VBS (Virtual Battle Space) is a gametype that I'm designing to prepare our forces to be more efficient at taking down organized forces. It's starts with the obvious sixteen player lobby, followed by choosing officers, followed by randomized picks for each team to avoid team stacking to improve unit cohesion. VBS revolves around scenarios which are simulated from actual free roam invasions. Basically two main scenarios, firefight and garrison between two factions, BLUFOR and OPFOR, blue and red teams.
BLUFOR:
Representative of the UXP
OPFOR:
Representative of the opposing force, varying between a savage tribe or a well organized force.
Firefight:
Firefight involves seizing ground and eliminating enemy opposition, or in other words, getting from point A to point B by way of gunfire. Two teams will always engage each other, one will walk away. The only way to reinforce your team is to have at least two soldiers alive in that fight. If they're alive, that team can have reinforcements get right back into the fight after the respawn from the direction of the group. (If the group approached the fight from the west, reinforcements must come from that direction.) If the entire team is eliminated, you must reallocate your forces and begin again. As in you must regroup and find the enemy again. The game ends after 45 minutes, and the team with the most score will be deemed the victor. Still sound a bit bland? Dynamic scenarios come into play in all base scenarios and will be explained later.
Garrison:
In this scenario, BLUFOR or OPFOR will hold a certain objective and the attacking side must seize it. When it has been seized by the attacking forces, the defense must regain control of it. If the defense manages to recapture it, the attacking forces will then retreat from the area and seize another key point. Now the tides have turned. The previously defending forces must now seize that objective from the attackers. The victor is determined by who is in control of the area at the end of this 60 minute game (15 minute prep). This scenario is also affected by dynamic scenarios and features a helicopter for the BLUFOR side.
If BLUFOR is attacking first, they will initially group at either the airport or helitours before the round starts. When BLUFOR is on offense initially, they enter the area via two helicopters. Only one will remain on station, and the officer of that team chooses an LZ or LZs for the helicopters to land. A pilot is chosen before the game starts, as well as the role of the helicopter, which can either serve the entire match as a gunship after it drops off troops initially, doing CAS available every three minutes, or to serve as a transport helicopter which will allow BLUFOR to move its forces strategically, placing certain troops in positions not normally accessible, or to just move them faster.
OPFOR is the opposing force, and will usually outnumber BLUFOR. Sometimes by a large margin, sometimes not. OPFOR doesn't gain access to helicopters, and also gains access to more RPGs for their AT soldier. (Explained with classes) OPFOR will never have access to helicopters, but may have access to other vehicles if the situation permits. OPFOR will have objectives to complete just as BLUFOR does.
Key characters:
Administrator
Officer
Administrator:
He's running the show, and it will always be played by a trusted individual, mainly because this character creates the dynamic scenarios and will always have the power of foresight. He's trusted to not take advantage of this, as he is also a player.
Officer:
Commands his team, assigns soldier archetypes, and can be reinforced even when alone if he is the only survivor.
Dynamic Scenarios:
This is what spices up the action! They can have impacts on the gameplay, they can decide who is the victor. Dynamic scenarios can turn firefights into potential hostage scenarios, cause sides to lose assets or gain assets, and so on, so forth. Both sides will be informed of when a dynamic scenario is in play by a call from the administrator informing you of what is happening and what you now need to respond to. They range from saving your helicopter pilot from his crash caused by engine failure to seizing supply dumps from the enemy to gain their weapons in the next fight.
Example scenarios:
Black Hawk Down:
November One is reporting engine failure and is losing altitude, he says he is going down hard. (Alternate: November One has taken enough fire from enemies to where his engine's smoking a blackish red, he is going down)
BLUFOR objective: Save the pilot, don't let him die or be captured!
Reward: Helicopter comes back into play, chance to change helicopter type.
If saves the captured pilot from OPFOR, regains helicopter, but cannot change helicopter type.
OPFOR objective: Kill or capture the pilot, don't let him be reinstated.
Reward: If captured, OPFOR can hold the pilot restrained, preventing any helicopters from coming to assist BLUFOR. If killed, eliminates the helicopter for twenty minutes.
The pilot surrenders if he runs out of ammunition from his MP5 or immediately drops his weapon.
Supply dump:
The defending force has weapons in a nearby warehouse. Seize these weapons. Two life reinforcement limit when attempting this.
Attacking objective: Capture weapons,
Reward: Gain weapons for next round,
Defending objective: Defend weapons,
Reward: Gain weapons for next round,
There are more scenarios, but these are just for examples on how rewards work. I plan to have at least six by the time we first play this.
Special Scenarios:
Special scenarios are scenarios where the few go against many, and separates the men from the boys. These are hard, and will force you to use your head to achieve your objective, or just survive. Dynamic scenarios don't happen here. These are still mostly in the making, but three have already been created.
Sniper Hunt:
4v12
A team of OPFOR snipers is tasked with eliminating Paramilitary opposition. While the Paramilitary soldiers are aware that there are snipers in the area, they have no idea where. All Paramilitary soldiers have two lives only, and the OPFOR's objective is to eliminate all enemy soldiers with at least one sniper remaining. 45 minutes.
Clean Sweep:
4v12
Highly trained Paramilitary operators are moving to cleanse an area of unwelcome occupants. You are one of those elite soldiers. OPFOR all have two lives. BLUFOR all have one. No time limit, game ends when all fighters have retreated or have been killed.
Lost Squad:
6v10
Your fellow Paramilitary comrades have been completely wasted in the ensuing battle. Your team consists of random soldiers from different units, branches and occupations which are chosen by the administrator. Unlimited lives for OPFOR, Paramilitary must make it to extraction. OPFOR gain a transport helicopter for inserting troops and scouting.
Note: This scenario is affected by administrators. In this, it is possible to salvage weapons from dead soldiers, find lost survivors (which play as lives to whoever found them) or use gain unique benefits. These are based on a chance system.
Classes:
Soldier archetypes, which have specific number sets. If you are assigned an archetype by the officer, you are restricted to that archetype, unless you and another soldier would like to switch out each other's archetypes.
Officer: M4, Desert Eagle, Body Armor (Up to 1)
Leads the group, this archetype is chosen either by volunteer and pending group approval, or by group vote. Can be reinforced by himself, can assign fireteam leaders if necessary.
Rifleman: M4 (Up to 2, additional if scenarios are completed)
Carries a rifle and is a force multiplier. Assigned by the officer.
AT Soldier: MP5, RPG single use (Up to 1, additional rockets can be unlocked through scenarios)
Is a unique soldier in that he is the only soldier who carries an RPG. The RPG is a single use item, but with certain scenarios can carry up to three. Additional rockets are lost if they aren't used and the character is killed before they are. (i.e., if player hasn't used rockets and has the maximum of three, if he dies, he will lose two no matter what. The RPG reverts to being a single use item. Use of RPGs when one doesn't have them will result in everyone becoming very pissed off at you.)
Soldier: MP5 (Unlimited)
Most soldiers will become...soldiers...these become the backbone of the group since they fill the empty roles with their 1500 round capacity MP5s.
Sniper: PSG-1, MP5 (Up to 1, unlocked through scenarios)
Teams only gain access to snipers when their team successfully completes a scenario involving weapons caching.
Pilot: MP5 (Scenario specific, up to 1, starting ammo only)
If the helicopter pilot runs into the misfortune of becoming a stranded pilot, he has to rely on his trusty MP5 to hold off invaders at the crash site. He has limited ammunition because there's only a little ammunition on board the now crashed helicopter. If the pilot takes any damage from the crash, he is considered too injured to move without help.
The gametype is ready for testing, if you'd like in, just post that you would, and send me a message via LIVE. This will be hosted at a time to be determined on Friday, 16 March.

Re: VBS GTA IV
I like the sound of it, but I'm awfully lazy. Can't we just say we'll play here and then get on the day it happens? Having to send a whole message sounds like it would take about a minute.
I guess having ten days to send a message isn't TOO bad. Can someone tell me what Forts is though? I've never played a game of Forts.

Re: VBS GTA IV
This will be happening at 21:00 Eastern, tomorrow, 16 March.
Will be inviting off of the Battledays roster, seeing as this is a substitute for that until private matches come out.

Remember to post all events in the events section, so our member base is aware of what is going on. If no event is listed, and a member gets an invite off of the tags, they won't know what is going on.
Re: VBS GTA IV
There was more of a problem of nobody being on than awareness.
Nevertheless, it was successful.

Re: VBS GTA IV
Certain people not knowing or caring about the rules, and the classes need to be changed around a bit.
Other than that, was fun.
