Did anyone just see a bright light in sky/ ufo?

I saw this in New Jersey but probably was big enough to be seen in new york

i was outside with my Dad when i look up and see a huge light atleast 4 times bigger than any star/airplane/helicopter with a beam of light going down but not reaching the ground

Since the beam of light did not reach the ground it could not be a signal light or anything in that sort. And it faded away quickly i don't know how long it was up there because i noticed it while i was going outside if you saw this please share... Or give an explanation

I just got home from a carnival dunno did not see anything my dad did once though something just what you described.

Even if there was, you would know if it there was a meteorite plummeting past the east coast. It wouldn't just be a light.

It was a rocket test launched in Virginia.

The space agency said it launched the Black Brant XII on Saturday evening to gather data on the highest clouds in the Earth's atmosphere. About the time of the launch, dozens of people in the Northeast started calling local television stations to report seeing strange lights.
The calls came from as far away as Boston, which is about 380 miles northeast of the launch site.
The rocket is designed to create an artificial cloud. NASA hopes the experiment will provide information on the formation and properties of noctilucent clouds, which occur at high altitudes.

They saw a strange, bright, cone-shaped light in the sky at about 7:55 p.m.
According to viewers, the light lasted only about 10 seconds.
An explanation has been discovered.
NASA launched a weather research rocket from its Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia, at about 7:46 tonight.
It is a four-stage rocket and the light seen up and down the East Coast is probably related to the burning of fuel during one of those stages about ten minutes after launch.

and that missle launch sounds pretty logical.
but hell the goverment trys to cover up so much shit its not even funny its still possible it coulda been a ufo?

Yeah it's possible it could be a Ufo But highly unlikely, Sorry to correct you but a missle is a thing that goes to someplace really far away and blows up, But a rocket goes up into space.

First of all rockets and missiles go BOOM. Rockets are mostly based on advance math to get them to their target. Missiles use GPS to get them to there target. Than there is rockets that don't go BOOM; these are used for scientific research as n2wry said. Than there is rockets and missiles that used heat seeking technology to track it target down. Than there is SAMs that are launch like missiles....

*edit* Well lights can be tricky. They can bounce, refract, and just get warped through hundreds of things so really it could have been another explosion in Tunsksta (for get how to spell it) or just good ol' Bush using military grade weapons as fire works. You never know...
