Does changing your gamertag take away your gamerscore?

I have been wanting to change my gamer tag for awhile, a friend of mine says though that if I pay 800 microsoft points to change it, my gamerscore and achievements will unfortunately disappear. Is this true? Because my friends tend to be usually full of shit.
And, I'd be really pissed off, if I lost my game achievements for Deadspace or Gta 4.

no one of my friends changed his gamertag like 8 times and still has like 14 thousand or whatever gamerscore

just get a bunch of people on your friends list to complain about the GT being offensive and youll get a free name change

Not anymore. Back in the good days you got a free namechange after 100 complaints.
