No more Christ in Christmas?

So, as usuall, I was scrolling /b/ and I found this picture. After thinking about it, I decided to hear your opinions on it. Let's be mature about this though. This isn't the place to bash someone for thinking differently.

Here, I will "kindel the fire" if you will.

I find that we are becoming more based off of a cultural religion if anything. Even if you aren't Christian, you do see the lacking in god in our "holiday's." Let us step besides the fact that we have a big fat guy, who gives presents to kids through the chimney to represent one of the biggest historical figure’s, to ever be conceived, birthday. Then we have a Bunny with eggs to tell us that Jesus rose from the dead. I find that our "holidays" become shopping frenzies. We couldn't care less what the T.V. screams at us when it comes to religion but, if it says we are missing out on a deal at Macy's than we need to focus our undivided attention towards the shopping carts and proceed to run down every person in the way.

This might have been just some mindless bable (I have been shoveling snow and cleaning my house for the past few hours and I just got off of /b/) but, I think the message is clear.

Hmmm, my opinion of all this is what ever makes you happier, do it.People look into this stuff way to hard.
Thank good I live in a city where it's population is 80%-90% Hispanic. Don't have to deal with people being offended by others traditions.

Even still. Whatever religion you have, you should base it off of the book that taught you. Not your wallet. It shouldn't matter what religion you are. It's a time for peace but, I guess that isn't the way people see it these days.

Christmas is very commercialized, because frankly many other religions besides Christians are allowed to celebrate it, and really, unless you are an avid Christian it isn't the same as it used to be.

well actually Christmas was a Pagen holiday i believe, the Christians just adopted it to become more popular. Also Jesus wasn't born on the 25th, so sense it is based off a lie im not going to count it as religious holiday.

In the end it's up to the person whether they want to celebrate xmas for its religious values or for the giving and recieving of gifts. Honestly, i'm not religious but i still celebrate it. It's not like the holiday is getting the life sucked out of it or anything. The heavily religious side will argue that xmas is being destroyed because of a lack of christ, due to business and non-believers. The other sides will simply say who the fuck cares it's like what a couple days of the year. So basically neither side is going to win and nobody is forcing anybody to celebrate it a certain way. Both sides need to stop bitchin and enjoy some much needed time off.

Well when your a parent, you can decide whether you want to tell your kids the truth about the holiday, or save yourself from a 3 hour explanation that will be forgotten in ten minutes.

Honestly, I don't have a problem with it.

I love Jesus, but Santa hurts me when I mention his name.

Today i learned something. Christmas isn't about religion, its not about shopping and spending money, it's about the feeling you get when you give someone a gift that normally wouldn't get one, and the smile on there face when they realize someone actually cares about them. That's the what the shits all about.

Lol and true. I still feel that it is just another example as to how much our culture has changed. From a parents stand point, I would just tell them "don't piss me off and I'll spend hundreds of dollars on you." Honestly, after watching my mom go through so much hell just trying to have a nice Christmas, I have decided that, it is way too much work and just so off the point. I am not a religious nut job but, my dad is an advid church goer and he seems pretty happy.
The point is, when it comes down to it, you would think our lazy civilization would choose to just be religious and take the holiday itself to be a blessing instead of the things and money that revolves around it. I am not trying to be Mr. Scrooge but, we are sent mixed signals throughout our lives. You best bet is to just be an atheisest and tell all the holidays to go stuff it.

About that, Christmas has many different meanings to people. To religous people it has to do with christ and all of that. To me and many other atheists this holiday is about giving and recieving friendship.
