They finally started filming. Assuming we should see it a trailer within the next year hopefully?

I wonder how they're going to adapt it; Is Pitt going to be the interviewer? Or is it just set in the World War Z universe?
EDIT: Yeah, sorry, I saw that it said he played the interviewer.

Just so you guys know...

There's a good chance that they've changed the story for the movie. I'm not really surprised, it's pretty typical.

There are so many narratives possible to convert into movies from the book and they just change the WHOLE premise? WHAT?Flasktoss55 wrote:Just so you guys know...

I actually can't see a zombie invasion overwhelming a committed military force. I'm thinking of all the modern equipment, force multipliers and advantages over zombies that we have and it's not looking good for the undead.
Never the less, sounds like a good movie. I'll watch it eventually.
For all you Fallout people, who agrees Power Armor and Energy weapons = What zombie apocalypse?

I bought it a month or two ago, and I'm about halfway through. I lost interest a few weeks back. Probably start reading it again in the next few days.

World War Z has the infection starting in rural China, so they were very hard to track down and kill before they became a large force. That, and they're the kind that don't die unless you destroy their brain.

Re: World War Z starts production
I realize that, but there is no way that zombies could destroy a tank (like they always seem to do in zombie movies) or any other combat vehicle for that matter. The headshot thing isn't accurately represented in the ArmA video (the engine had limitations, including that you can't make it near invincible except with a headshot) but seriously, just put infantry on the ground with serious vehicular support as shown in the video and this shit isn't even a problem.
But zombies aren't real anyway, so it's all level ground for whatever.

Its not nessasarily the state/technological tier of the military's equipment and vehicles that ended up being the Army's downfall. It was the lack of fuel and ammo aqquired for a long drawn out campaign against an enemy that doesn't use intell, spies, vehicles (alot of the tanks at the Battle of Yonkers were equiped with HEAT and SABOT rounds which are utterly useless against personel), or have an overall morall to their horde (why the shock and awe technique fell flat on its face). When the howitzers, armor, and airstrikes only put a small dent into the zombie's numbers (not to mention make an assload of noise that attracted half of manhatten towards them), the infantry were forced to cover a confused and chaotic retreat and were subsequently overun.

SABOT rounds are meant for hard targets and there's no way any competent tank commander would order sabot rounds against a humanoid target. HEAT on the other hand explodes on contact and would blast groups of undead into the next dimension. Attack helicopters could destroy with ease hordes from distances of up to a kilometer away if we're talking using cannons. Other weapons systems even farther.
Artillery wouldn't be effective against personnel constantly moving unless we're talking direct fire methods. Airstrikes would have minimal effect except with gun runs and with a wide open range. Moving into cities would be difficult, and require unit cohesion between vehicular support and ground units, and this task would be sizable, but not insurmountable. It's a brainless enemy. I can't address the fuel and supplies situation, but I can't imagine it being impossible with the fuel reserves and ammunition dumps that are scattered across the country in case WWIII occurs.
World War Z seems to use recurring themes to forward its story, and while it's a good book, I don't think it's realistic (as realistic as a zombie book can get).
Not doubting at all that small numbers couldn't stand to hordes, but a committed military force I think could destroy it.
