Mid-week-ly Community games Empty Mid-week-ly Community games

Post  Desert Sleepy 27th September 2011, 5:23 pm

I think it would be fun to have a community game sometime in the middle of the week. It could take place whenever, for example, Wednesday, 8:00PM. Any gametypes could be played, could play zombies, gang wars, "forts", or even other games. Basically anyone could be the host, and the rules would be that if the host votes to kick somebody, everyone else has to as well. Could play any scenarios that we're familiar with (as it's not an official game, you could take that chance to practice. For example, you could try to survive all round with just your pistol in preparation for the Saturday zombie night). We could also test out anyone's custom scenarios, and of course plenty of people who might want to would get an opportunity to be the helicopter pilot.

The main problem would be finding enough people to agree upon a time and game. I know there are more than 16 people on the forum, but out of those, we would need 16 people who can play it at X time on X day.

I just think it would be fun to play more games in the week, to help ease the wait for Saturday. Anyone else up for it? If so, name when you're available, what you'd like to do, and feel free to throw in your ideas or advice.

Great idea sleepy. We've been trying to get people to do this and rely less on staff hosted games. The idea of this community is that people should host their own games and they have the community available to play with. So yea I really feel strongly about this. I am available most weeknights however this week I'm booked because of a combination of work and my friend comes home from college.

But every other week I will definitely be around at least one day of the week.

I think the best way to do this would be to get enough people to agree to come to actually sustain a game [as in, at least 12 or 14(as it doesn't have to always be zombies, and gang wars could be done with a less than full lobby)]. Get all the people who are up for it onto a list, and then try to all come up with a time to play.

The reasoning behind having it be scheduled, is that I think it would be much easier just knowing that there's a community game every week on (X Day) at (X o'clock), rather than trying to get a group together for a game every time you want to host one.

For example: Let's say hypothetically there's a weekly game every Tuesday at 8:00PM. On Tuesday at around 7:45PM, whoever is hosting that week gets on the forum, goes over the list of people up for it, and invites them to a game (we'd have to agree ahead of time who's hosting what when, so we don't have competing lobbies). Then at 8:00PM, Host A has 13 other players, and in the lobby they vote by a margin of 9-5 to play zombies. If anybody drops out, the host can check the list again, re-invite anybody not already in the game, and basically replenish the lobby.

Of course, we'd need a lot more people to volunteer first, and then maybe we can start a thread to vote on the time. Then in that thread, we could find out who's going to host that particular week (I'd be willing to host if needed, but I'm sure that are plenty of other people who would be willing to).

Basically how its done now XD

Also if you have a set time EVERY week. Like EVERY Tuesday @ 8pm there is a game, after like a week or two the room will fill quick.

Btw, try not to over do the same gametypes.

I agree with Tophat but I will also say this:

You have to work to get people to join your games. Don't expect that just because you post it here you will immediately get a full room. Probably the opposite. You need to do your own advertising. That means, posting, word of mouth and messages on XBL.

When UX was first created and we didn't have this immense playerbase, where do you think we got our players from? We talked to our friends, sent messages, and advertised on the internet (although that last one doesn't really pertain to you guys as much, but its always an option.)

Think about this, if you invite/message your entire friendslist and grab maybe 3 people. Then those people might grab 3 people and so on. If they like your game, they will join the next one and hopefully join UX and be available to join other games.

I think this is a great idea and would like to see it go somewhere.

The best I could come up with advertising-wise was this thread, and adding a link to this thread in my signature.

As for friends, I pretty much only play games with 3 of the people on my friends list, the three I know in real life. And they aren't too active.

There would have to be a game or two played to get any word of mouth going. I'm thinking I could make a pretty good promotional video if I could get a game going, and that should draw more in.

The first step though is that more people need to agree to play community games. Enough to actually start one. The people who have volunteered already (Tophat 44, SlaughterShyful, Jawbuster.) could advertise to their friends if they want (on site friends, XBL friends, whatever).

Well you will definitely get more than just those 4 by posting here.

You need to start by hosting the first game I would say. And try sending messages to people on your friendlist you don't know or don't talk to. You would be surprised how many people might be interested. You can always try messaging/inviting recent players although this might be considered spam but I have definitely gotten players like this in the past.

I think I should definitely play some more games before I host any. If Tophat 44 goes through with his idea to host COD Zombies, maybe I can get into that. Then there's the weekly games. Maybe I can tell about the midweek community games there.

Or, if I can get a few more people to sign up, can get the ball rolling that way and just go straight to a small community game.

I'll help you out when you need it Des. If I know anything about the community games I used to host, the community can be an asshole. They might not listen. So having a Staff member or two in there might maintain a bit of order.

So far we're at around 8 people (Including me). I'll be generous and say maybe 4 of us will be available any given time and day.

Shit, it seems like it would just be easier to try to nab new players as soon as they join. Just tell them it's a practice round to help them get settled in. I'll see a bunch of older users on at any given time, but I guess not too many people care for community games.

EDIT: That plan would be a lot easier if some of these new people would just post an introduction. Then I could just say "Hi, welcome to the site" yada-yada, then throw in there "You should play community games (link it) while waiting for Saturday. Just comment and follow the thread to join.".

If you really need help, we could pass a message along an UndeadXbox gamertag or two, so that you could fill your room, and the word would spread.

For some reason that just seems inappropriate. I feel like the best solution would just be to find enough forum users, since communicating to them times and dates would be easier. I'm sure within a few weeks there'll be enough, and by that time hopefully myself and anyone else who may want to do some community games will be more prepared for it.
