Problems with West's Xbox Empty Problems with West's Xbox

Post  WestHybrid 360 26th March 2012, 4:11 am

So. I've had a problem with my Xbox for about 2 or 3 weeks, that I've been ignoring. Was wondering if any of you have any ideas.

So, my Xbox basically refuses to turn off when I press the off-switch. The system will shut down, the screen will go black, controller shuts off, but the xbox is still running. The Power brick is still on, and the xbox "ring" flashes green every few seconds. Only way to effectively turn it off is to unplug it.

This hasn't seemed to do any more damage to my xbox, and it's not hindering gameplay, but it's still weird. The xbox is about 3 years old and has lasted pretty well, and I don't have the money to get a new one at the moment.

So I'm wondering if this could turn into something worse, if it's just my power brick, if theres anything I can do to fix it, or if I'm just screwed and I need to buy a new xbox.

How can you tell it's on? Just by the power brick, or are other components running still (like the fan)?

I've never heard of this problem before.

The Power Brick, the fan, the "ring" lighting green every few seconds.

From the sound of it, it might be going into "sleep mode", or a low power state, rather than turning off. I think it normal automatically does that when you leave the system on (inactive) for a few hours (I think 6 hours?).

I would have no idea how to fix that though. Maybe try checking the system settings to see if the "sleep" thing is enabled/disabled.

I've never heard of this problem, but my brother and I frequently move the Xbox around, meaning it gets unplugged and moved and replugged a lot, and it has yet to cause me any trouble. What I'm getting at is that you should just unplug it when you're not using it to save power, since it doesn't seem to do any harm.

Ah yes, most likely this now that I think about it. Do you have any active downloads going when you turn it off?

If so, nothing to worry about. Just leave the xbox in the "sleep mode" state, and once it finishes the download, it will automatically completely shutdown.

When you pull the power strip out, and it is still running, that's its way of saying "Don't go to sleep, we love you".

And when you go further as to kill your circuit breaker in your house, and it is still running, that's its way of saying "nice try..." Wink

Hybrid, do you have the old or new model Xbox?

Also, have you tested how long this occurs? If it's more than a half hour talk to me, and I'll guide you through what to do.

But yeah, it's most likely running shut down processes and updating.
