Best FPS Series

My choice is Half-Life.

Half-Life is the perfect blend of an interesting story, adventure, and FPS gameplay. The combat can be difficult and involving. No other game has really come close the level of quality that each Half-Life has given me.

Even Half-Life 1 has more adventure and interesting gameplay than most modern FPSs.

Formulaic FPSs like Call of Duty and Medal of Honor really don't even compete. Call of Duty is fun, but it's no Half-Life.

I'd say Battlefield, 1942 and Battlefield 2 changed the way games were played, so did Bad Company with the destruction. The series opened up one of the biggest sandbox environments ever.

Rainbow Six was a good series too.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. remains my favorite series though.. there's just too many to chose from.

Battlefield I think is probably the best shooter because of its realism. With out it, it just isn't as fun as before.

team fortress, half life, portal, left 4 dead, and bioshock

team fortress because it is a fun and original multiplayer game (talking to you war shooters). half life because the story was ingaging and it didn't really feel repetitive. portal because it was a fun puzzle game with an awsome story (cant wait for portal 2). left 4 dead because I am not a huge competitive multiplayer guy I am a bigger fan of co-op and the ai director help make each play through feel diffrent and last but not least bioshock because the story was awsome and no other game ever made me jump out of my chair so much.

Battlefield or Medal of Honor. Battlefield because it revolutionized online gaming, and realism in shooters. Medal of Honor because of the vastly different stories with each game(You don't have the same type of "OH NO! I am laying down and all I have is a pistol to shoot three guys who are slowly jaunting over to me to shoot me in the noodle" like every CoD since Modern Warfare. Also MoH hooks you in emotionally because your character actually has a backstory and isn't some new recruit with no history before the game, or no voice(Which is awesome because even though your character in MoH doesn't speak they do manage to have a voice about them). Also the fact that I teared up at the end of MoH 2010.

I agree. I have experienced many cool moments in half life two. and I'v also been scared shitless many times. for instance at the start of the second game when your fleeing from combines and moving through the apartments I was shiting bricks.

Quake, for pretty much being the first one (and definately the first one to success as) a 3D shooter, and a multiplayer FPS!

half life is amazing as a series. But yeah my love lies with the battlefield series (1942 onwards)

Bad Company 2 is by far the most real sniping based game I've played.. even beat Sniper: Ghost Warrior.. even though it was destined for shit Battlefield still beat them and that whole game was based around sniping!

Snipers are the cancer of that game. And it's not even anywhere near realism.
As long as you can move while scoped in, or even aim accurately while standing, don't bother calling it realistic.

Try the Project Reality mod for Battlefield 2 if it's realism that you want.

not a PC gamer so I doubt I'll play it with that.. and I mean just think about it.. its got to be the most real sniping type game at this point in time other than Mods.

Complete realism in a game kind of ruins the fact that it is a GAME. If I wanted completely realistic sniping, I would join the army, I am accurate enough with a Rifle I could get into a "sniping school".

But anyway, Project realism still does it the best, because it takes more than a quarter of a second to view the scope and fire. Other than that, I haven't seen a game that has it perfectly like real life, because I don't think anyone would enjoy that very much...

The only saving grace in this sentence is "most real sniping game I'VE PLAYED."

Bad Company 2 may have more difficult sniping controls than mainstream shooters but it is nowhere near realistic.
