The future of console gaming! (and the price tag)
Hello ladies and gents. I once had a discussion with a friend of mine on the future of console gaming, with the ps4 and the xbox 720 on the horizon. And we starting talking about how much it would cost. So it made me want to investigate on the google to see what would be the ideal price and i found this:
http://www.videogamer.com/news/ps4_and_xbox_720_likely_to_cost_350-_400.html
So $350 to $400 for the basic kit. Sounds reasonable comparing these future consoles and their forefathers, but what do you guys think?

A new console is long overdue, but I do wish they would delay it further, especially since it doesn't seem to be any major step-up in technology compared to its successor (to cut costs). The "Kinect integration with every Xbox" feature I complete saw coming though... unfortunately..

pretty comparable to the past
as long as it is backwards compatible and the launch titles are decent i think it will be an interesting system, although how much more can they do other than bump up the graphics and mother board. (and maybe a fan system that works)

It's gonna be $600-700. It always is. And the original console will be inferior to the slim re-release that's gonna cost half the amount. Always happens.

They aren't. GTA5 is appearing in Spring (April or May), and the next gen in the fall. Besides, the developer can't really design a game for a console in which they know little about. Considering the trailers already released, it is pretty much locked for the current gen.

Defo May all of their games come out in May these years.eaustinn36 wrote:

Well in my opinion i wouldn't buy any I would just save up for the Steambox If it would have the connection with pc gamers like Portal 2 with PC and Ps3 users.

I am just going to put Gentoo on an n64 so I can play retro steam games on a >1ghz processor and probably 32 mb RAM. Then I'll pretend its the new Xbox by shouting various commands at it.

I'm not gonna bother with buying another console I will most likely focus on getting a computer capable of gaming.

Good choice, I'd definitely recommend it.

Seems to be the choice everyone makes as they get older. (If they still want to game, that is).

slowly all the people i want to play xbox with, are buying gaming computers. Not only that but consoles seem to be getting more and more expensive and PC gaming is starting to look better with each passing day...

Might be because it's a lot easier to communicate with people while gaming on PCs, and you can tab out of your game to do other stuff, and it has a pretty large selection of games (though it might not get every exclusive shooter or button mashing game, but who gives a shit about those). PCs are just a lot more "connected" than consoles.
EDIT: AND THE PORN, OF COURSE.

I'll eventually get the next gen of consoles, especially since there will always be exclusives for each console but my main concern right now is the PC.

This.
I've learned over the years that the first games after a new console is released are crap, and the price of the console goes down after a year.
(Think about that stuff makes me feel really old now...)

There will always be an exception, you know?
I mean look at this list. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_video_game_console_launch_games#Xbox_360
Unless you really loved that game or Call of Duty 2, the lineup wasn't that strong.

Well, you know that I really don't buy games (rarely buy at least), as in i'm very selective on the games I buy; for example, I won't buy RDR or Skyrim. So, i'm not really the person to answer that question.

But then again, the Wii lineup was less than favorable, and looking back at it now, there are very few games for it that ever really stood out, mostly just the Zelda games, Brawl, and some of the bigger Mario games were really worth getting in the end.

Yeah, I was practically a nintendo fanboy until the wii came out. I owned every single nintendo hanheld and console since the Super Nintendo, only to buy an Xbox after a year of Wii's failures. There were maybe a handful of games I still would have bought.
