I'm saying that there really shouldn't be any choice in the matter.

I am entirely for Obama's taxations on the rich.

How do the rich people feel? Oh well I worked my ass off and now I just have to give it up, I'm just going to not work at all and get all my money for free like everyone else.

Let's look at it a different way.

"I am sitting on a throne of cash obtained through greed. What's that? You want to take from my golden throne to improve the lives of others? That's absolutely preposterous! What's that? It's a small amount of what I actually have? That's even more preposterous!"

Anyone that would really say that they would just "receive free money" like anyone else is probably too stupid to have obtained such money anyway.

I really am not trying to be a dick or anything, trust me I see what you mean. Again many people have hard times getting jobs/money, but I'm just being realistic. People will not be happy with getting their money taken and distributed.

Its not about morality, its about human behavior. There are bad people, there are good people.

I don't argue that many people will be happy about it, but from a different angle: Many people will not be happy about being oppressed into the lower class by the rich class. Or, as I said earlier, that the rich stay rich and the poor stay poor.

I just don't think America is going to head in that direction. At least not for a while. There's people that will stay rich and stay poor. The poor here don't even have it as bad as other countries poor people do. So we're already not doing that bad of a job.

America has always been different and successful, we're the best country to be living in, even in this shitfest of an economy. Individual freedom is one of its best qualities, and you won't be able to get rid of that very easily.

I'm not proposing we get rid of individual freedom. I am proposing that, at a certain paygrade, people become more taxed than others.

Yeah I know, but in a way that is still interfering with the persons freedom to do with their money as they please. In a good or bad way. But we've already been here and understand each others points.

I suppose you could boil down everything I said into the fact that I am a major proponent against the advancement and encouragement of greed in our economy.

I'd also make the point that there is no such thing as absolute freedom.

I understand that, we've never been a COMPLETELY free country. Nothing is truly free

It depends on your point of view. Its kind of ignorant to say we're the best country ever and to be living in. Its based on perspective.

I think you missed mboddz's point. He's not saying that we AREN'T the best, he's saying that it's a matter of perspective. The best how? It's relative.

I meant our way of life, our poorest people rarely starve or have trouble finding shelter

All I'm basically trying to say even in a recession, we really don't have it as bad as others do.

Arguing over class is kinda pointless. Yes there is the few who are born rich and those not. But without thier parents or grand parents they would be just as low as all of us. With hard work you can climb the ladder and that is what my family is doing right now (with some exceptions of view >,<). We all started at the same point technically, it is just some get the chance to skip ahead or get held back due to bad choices they make.

As for health care, yes I see we as a nation are low for such a technological advance society. I rather have German/Japanese health care but I live here.

The poor are not always made poor based on bad decisions. Likewise the rich are not always made rich based on good decisions.

I didn't have it that bad as a child, I went to a normal school, lived in normal house. So I was middle class. I don't know what kind of perspective mega king, or mboddz have, but from mine, it really isn't all that bad. Its not like our country is completely ignoring the poor, we have welfare and foodstamps and homeless shelters to help people.

Someone could be poor for many reasons. Either they got laid off, are from a different country, or are just lazy. So some of the time it is bad decision, or bad luck

I am middle class as well. There is a fine line between middle class and poor.

Kind of stopped posting because this argument went down to arguing over class. In which case the rich are always going to be resented by the lower classes.
I stand by my point until somebody goes back a page and a half and calls me out on it again.

I stand by my point because if you compare us to other countries. Most do not care about their poor as much as we do. More can be done, yes.
