Take some initiative for once in your pitiful existence and pick someone on Ephemerallian's Mate Index to strike up a conversation with. You know people. Maybe they know about this mysterious program.

Put the screwdriver in your pants. In the event that you meet any "undesirables" on this day, you do not want to be unprepared for violence. Every high-schooler should carry a weapon at all times.

You pocket the screwdriver. It dawns on you that you could fall and the screwdriver would probably go through your hip. Hey, a little precaution never hurt. Unless it did.
BLACK SNOW 13 wrote:Read tab marked "[LAWS]" and then press F1 to get help if possible. Check for download folder for any possible downloaded things that are not showing. Check documents or recent history on your browser of choice
Nothing ventured, nothing gained, you decide. You click the [LAWS] tab and watch as the Earth fades away, leaving some other spherical planet in its stead. The planet revolves quickly as it shrinks into the corner of the window. The space in the middle of the window is replaced by a set of four laws.
1) End-user may not synthesize living objects or otherwise use the functions of the Reality Changer to subvert death.
2) End-user may not alter the flow of time past, present, or future, or inadvertently modify the timeline through the synthesis or alteration of any other object.
3) End-user may not synthesize any object that logically can not exist, or alter any object to have the properties of such an object.
4) End-user may not alter or synthesize any object with the purpose of monetary gain.
Absolutely abnormal. You strike the F1 key, but no help is given. Instead, the [LAWS] tab refreshes with a lightning-quickness, bringing the game's rules to your attention once again.
But not for long. You minimize the game and open your favorite web browser, WaterBox! It's name is so silly you can't help but hate yourself a little every time you see it. The recent download history shows nothing out of the ordinary; only the latest episode of your favorite TV-show TimeCop. Likewise, your browser history elicits no strange results. You see that you recently used your favorite search engine to research a project at school dealing with nothing of interest and visited Reanimated Σ-Cube.
NickisanEnigma wrote:To hell with protocol. CHANGE REALITY RIGHT NOW.
Enough with all this tomfoolery! You exit out of WaterBox, maximize the RC, click the [CHANGE REALITY] tab, and oh hell this isn't as easy as you thought. Sadly, you won't be changing reality with reckless abandon. At least not yet.
You see two options at the top of the window, [EDITOR] and [SYNTHESIZE]. You select [EDITOR] and a host of options becomes available: [SCAN], [EDIT], and [EXCURSUS]. You select the [SYNTHESIZE] tab and nothing happens. Maybe it’s broken. It’s probably broken.
The [MOBILE RC] tab begins flashing.
Professor Vanguard wrote: Take some initiative for once in your pitiful existence and pick someone on Ephemerallian's Mate Index to strike up a conversation with. You know people. Maybe they know about this mysterious program.
You briefly open Ephemerallian to find four of your mates online: l'apothicaire: your friendly, all-loving friend, Non Quixote: your best friend of a few years, noVus: your friend who is pretty much a nerd, and PaintedEasel. You would rather not speak to PaintedEasel at the moment.
You try to remember your own username.
What is your Ephemerallian username, and who would you like to message?
In your possession is: an iPhone, and a flat-head screwdriver.

Consequences are pretty silly.
But you know your own user name, and that's not it.

Oh, right. Your username is BarrettM82. You decide to make a mental note, so you don't have another lapse like that.
You look back at the RC program, and make an intuitive guess that the currently flashing "MOBILE RC" function will allow you to link the program to your iPhone. As you click it, you prepare to plug the phone into the computer; however, the program seems to have other plans. The image of the earth folds away again, making space for a 3D on-screen display of your room, with you sitting in it--and a quick look around tells you there's no cameras.
Strange.
Each object that you mouse over lights up on screen. and displays a box near your mouse cursor. It appears to show the name of whatever object you are mousing over, but everything in your room currently brings up "???", except for you; mousing over yourself simply displays "Garrett".
Suspending your disbelief, you remove your iPhone from your pocket and click it. The program pauses briefly, as if thinking over what you've done; a moment later, your phone lights up, indicative that a new program has been added. Mousing over your iPhone in the on-screen display now identifies it as such.
You click [EDITOR], then [SCAN]. On screen, a wave of color begins to pass through the display of your room; the program appears to be scanning the space, identifying all the objects therein. This process takes no more than a few seconds to complete--after this, mousing over anything in your room now reveals its proper name, such as "lamp", "bed", or "shirt".
The [EXCURSUS] tab begins to flash.
RedrumSalad wrote:Message noVus and ask what the hell Reality Changer is. If he's pretty much a nerd, then he should know.
You try to send the file to him over Ephemerallian. Doesn't work. You can't attach it to an e-mail, either, and it doesn't show up for selection on any hosting site. Strange... you'll have to get back to him.
BLACK SNOW 13 wrote:Search Reality Changer on your favorite search engine. Then try to message l'apothicaire to see whats up (or down).
Nothing much to speak of here. The search yields no results for the program you're using. You decide to hit up another one of your friends.
...Fancy that.
What will you do?

Go to page one of your search results. It might be there. Silly search engines and their automatic transfer to the second page of results.
Try to take the file and move it to a jumpdrive or any portable drive. If it worked for you phone, it might work for something else.
Select your shirt from your phone. See what you can do from there.

I assume [EXCURSUS] is some type of index of items that is currently being populated by the objects in Garrett's room. So, with that in mind...
Click [EXCURSUS], browse to the globe item, and click [SYNTHESIZE]. Unless there's some cost for synthesizing, in which case click [EDIT] instead.

You add l'apothicaire to the block list from your Mate Index. You're not sure why--she just came off as sort of douchey, you guess. You'll unblock her whenever you feel like it, anyway.
The blinking of the [EXCURSUS] tab attracts you, so you decide to check it out.
It appears to be a list of the objects the Reality Changer scanned in your room--each one of them has what appear to be physical or implied properties affixed to it. When you open it, the program notifies you via pop-up that "New Properties have been added for the Edit and Synthesis functions."
- Spoiler:
- Click here to view the persistent Excursus.

Select your shirt from your phone. See what you can do from there.
You already looked on the first page, obviously. It wasn't there, but the results were a bit too meta for your liking.
That said, you don't have a flash drive in your possession currently.
You do decide to see what you can do with the program on your phone. You start it up to find that the iPhone doesn't have a 3D interface; after tooling around with it for a while, you find that you can search for latent objects that exist within the Excursus, or select an object by pointing the phone's camera at it.
The Reality Changer identifies the chosen object as:
T-SHIRT (Material: Cotton) (Clothing: Body)
It gives you two options: [EDIT: ADD] and [EDIT: REMOVE]. You have yet to experiment with these.
BLACK SNOW 13 wrote:Clean yourself up. You are going out for fun! Maybe you can find something out there.
Clean?
You're wearing clothes. This is close enough for government work.
Flasktoss55 wrote:I assume [EXCURSUS] is some type of index of items that is currently being populated by the objects in Garrett's room. So, with that in mind...
Click [EXCURSUS], browse to the globe item, and click [SYNTHESIZE]. Unless there's some cost for synthesizing, in which case click [EDIT] instead.
The Excursus offers no option for synthesizing when you click an item; instead, it simply searches for the selected object in your environment and prompts you to edit that one. [SYNTHESIZE] is a function entirely separate from the Excursus.
The 3D model on your computer zooms in for a closer view of the globe decoration in your room when you select the object in the Excursus. Clicking [EDIT] offers the same options as attempting to edit your shirt via your phone: [EDIT: ADD] and [EDIT: REMOVE].
What do you do?
Re: Reality Changer (Choose Your Own Adventure)

Flasktoss55 wrote:Click [EDIT: ADD] with the globe selected.
Clicking [EDIT: ADD] brings up a properties menu. It appears you are meant to alter the object using the properties that you have discovered thus far. There is plenty of space for more properties, and some things are marked by ???s; you believe this indicates a limited number of undiscovered factors.
The Reality Changer identifies this object as:
ROTATING GLOBE DECORATION [C] (Structure: Small) (Structure: Sphere) (Material: Plastic)
What do you do?
- Spoiler:
- A persistent Properties list can be found by clicking here.
Re: Reality Changer (Choose Your Own Adventure)
Edit (Structure: Sphere) to (Structure: Cube), perhaps?
