If you want to, then go for it. I personally believe though that you can't become a good roleplayer by reading text, it takes experience, maturity, etc.. To me at the moment, it is something you have, or don't.

That being said, based on this last Life match, it is clear a lack of cops will not reduce crime. In fact, anything I do will not reduce crime. Hate to say it, but I pretty much came up with (and implemented) every idea in the book. At this point, it just comes down to how good the people in the lobby are, NOT the ruleset. Therefore, unless someone has a revolutionary idea, in not going to come up with anymore cheap tactics to reduce crime. It all comes down to the lobby.

Since crime is still too high, despite this, I believe if the game can't be played right (with good RPing), then it shouldn't be played at all.


I am temporarily suspending Life RP matches, since it is clear to me that most people who join don't want to play Life, and just play cops and robbers instead. I'll update a new date when I decide on one.

Finally, official matches are suspended, but not unofficial. All info on that will be done over XBL, not this topic.

Anyways i was thinking since you can't stop the crime from happening then why don't you try to mix Life RP with Cops and Robbers. Sort of make it role play. Because i mean you can't stop the crime because eventually the game gets boring i mean isn't that why we play video games? because real life gets boring so we need to do something fun. I think that if we can keep a cap on the killing and keep it from turning into team deathmatch it could be a pretty fun game. because it seems that everybody wants to do a little bit of crime. so i say that you do an experimental match where ORGANIZED crime is allowed, as in mafia things such as trafficking and stealing cars, because i think it could be a fun game if we can keep it a role play. I personally think that it's worth a shot and you've got nothing to lose trying it. but hey, it's your game do whatever you like.

This mentality among the average attendee is exactly why I am temporary stopping Life RP. One of the biggest rules in the game (mentioned everywhere) is "don't do anything you wouldn't do in real life". The point of Life RP is to replicate your real life, not escape it by going on a crime spree (or doing something you normally wouldn't do irl). You mentioned "eventually the game gets boring i mean isn't that why we play video games?". The game only gets boring if the players in the lobby make it boring; we've had some great matches in the past because everyone was actively involved in a realistic crimeless roleplay; this is what the game is suppost to be. I hope your real life isn't as boring as you are describing it.

We have gametypes for this, such as Gang wars, mafia wars, or another variation of crime roleplay. This is Life RP though, and is the only gametype we have that still is anti-crime, and I would like to keep it that way.

Until I get a sense that there is a demand for Life RP again (not a crime based cops and robbers), then I will not host it (although I personally want to host it). A bad roleplay is still wose than no RP at all.

You probably already thought of this but why not try a point or leveling system? or something like this that would determine your RP skill and whether or not you'd be invited to an official RP.

To clarify, you could host like some sort of trial game that could last maybe an hour or two, in that short amount of time you could judge people on their role play skills. This would mean that you could test people, and those who can handle being crime free and participate in a legitimate activity during the RP would receive an invite to the official game hosted on Fridays. IMO this would be easier and less frustrating, rather than just inviting anyone and everyone to the game and hoping they know what to do. its like how ZRP is only meant to be for veteran players (I think?) they have to prove them self first. Like you could have a lobby full of people in a trial RP, you could call it "Lobby A", if this lobby passes, then those players could be put on some sort of list and be invited to an official match, then you could have "lobby B" and if they fail, put them on like probation or something haha, where they have to come to the next trial game to prove they've improved.
This might be to complicated, but you like to complicate things so maybe you could give this a try. Maybe set up a new UX account for those who passed and those who didn't, so if you did decide to try this, it'd be more organized?

I dont know, it might sound better in my mind then it does when i put it into words. If you want me to clarify more on this lemme know.

So wait is the game tonight? or are you guys just commenting on RP for next time? oh well if there is a game count me in, i usually don't do anything in GTAIV that i wouldn't do in real life anyway (excluding throwing stuff at Pedestrians,and driving through stop lights).

And you probably thought of this the first time you made a RP game, but why not turn cops on and everyone has a chance to be a resturant owner/streaker/stripper/strip club owner, just spitballing here but i mean they but a cop option for a reason, to prevent crime, though this cuts down the amount of roleplay(drug deals,bank robberys,cannabalistic heroin burgers?) you can also be a cop (eaustinn),and have cops turned on, like i said im just spitballing here.

@steveeee - As much as I am against more complex weird systems to attempt to improve roleplay, you might have something there. Although, I originally wanted Life RP to be open to everyone when I first created it, but maybe it is time it was a more restricted event. I'll consider it.

Cops in-game have an IQ less than 70: They are horrible drivers (hit every pedestrian vehicle), do NOT respond to speeding, running red lights, etc.. , and they will not arrest you. In multiplayer, they will just shoot at you even on 1 star. Almost all variations of the rules has been tried already, believe me. This gametype has been around for years.

Yeah i understand it has been around for years, i have been here for a week, its just a suggestion. And i agree with steve's idea,if you can update the RP points once a month then you can know who doesn't "get bored" easily and who is mature enough to Role-play.

I agree with steve. His idea seems good and it seems like it could reduce the level of crime being commited in recent games; although, I don't think it would eliminate crime entirely.

why not try and create a story line to follow instead of just improving

this way everyone can participate and gives a guideline for what everyone should be doing and what is acceptable for the story line

two average joes framed for murder

gang

crooked loan sharks

tainted hot dogs infecting the people

fraud

Chinese delivery boy gets mixed up with the wrong people

Car salesmen knowingly sells cars that are on recall and chaos ensues

Or I could run a legitimate government which enforces policies and laws which will change the course of the roleplay and develop a lot of roleplay.

That sounds like a good idea but i don't think the story lines will get approved. but if some one gave roles to people i think that would help. i think there should be roles for people and a general goal for the game that the players can reach in various ways by role playing.

Well the whole purpose of Life RP is that there is no set storyline. Nearly every other community game I host has a set storyline or ruleset, so while everyone knows what to do, it limits creativity. I'd rather not tell people who they are going to be or become, as irl you are not forced to either. it all depends on the creativity of the lobby; we've had plenty of great Life RP's in the past with no storyline, and it can continue. Now, i'm not saying don't come in with a storyline pre-planned out for yourself, but I want everyone else to choose for themselves.

Now don't get me wrong, crime itself in the game isn't bad; it is just excessive crime that is, and unfortunately, it always turns out that way in recent games.

That being said, I know what i'm going to do:

- At 8pm EST every time it is hosted (as usual), the first hour will serve as a "judgement" phase. Every week I want to see if enough people are willing to RP. At 9:00pm EST, I will make a new lobby, and invite the people that can RP to it. Now, idc if I happen to invite no-one at all, so don't think if you all act as a group to do crime i'll give in anyway just to keep the lobby going. Any [good] story-lines started in the first part may continue in the next part.

If this works, then Life RP is back on it's normal schedule. If not, well back to temporary suspension.



Next game will be this Friday @ 8pm EST, as updated in the OP, since I currently do not have an event scheduled then.


**NOTE: Be at your best during the first hour. Idc if I know you irl, if your RPing bad, you will not get invited. Not getting invited will have no effect on whether or not your invited next time it is hosted, although I will have a general idea or who is good and lacking real life RP skills.

Also, for all those people who i've been updating about an unofficial match, that is no longer happening due to this update.
